Divide and violence In Iraq

Iraq has seen a lot of religious tension since the U.S. led collation back in 2003. This tension has been between the shiite sect of Islam and the Sunni sect of Islam. Iraq has been seen has a buffering state between Iran and Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Since the muslim holiday of Ramadan Iraq has seen a spike in bombings and killings in a majority Shiite area.According to the Huffington Post there has been over 250 killed over this holiday. Most have been in neighborhoods that saw some of the most fierce fighting between shiite militia and sunni extremists.

This violence between religious sects have almost collapsed Iraq and its government =. These acts of violence that are being taken out in Iraq could have the potential to lead Iraq closer to a civil War. Iraq as a failed state or weak state have not been able to stop the violence since the US coalition exited that country. This Shia controlled government is seen as a power grabbing government. According to the Independent the shier government has to face challenges that are brought on by the Kurds in the North who want independence and the Sunnis who use extreme tactics to get there way.

This weak failed state that is now ruling Iraq has the potential to be overthrown. They are quiet powerful enough. I think like Stewart Patrick mention states being weak aren't quiet havens for extremists, but with its borders and other countries trying to position themselves we could things escalate in this area. That being said I do think that Iraq can avoid this by being able to unite this country like Saddam did before the invasion of the United States
